To Members of the Hive,

In a time of uncertainty and global chaos, we as educators need to provide our students with a structural and social backbone.  Educators have been asked to deliver high-quality instruction in a digital format virtually overnight.  We all need help in ensuring that we are meeting our student’s needs in this new format.  We must show our kids that education, and more importantly educators, are the glue that holds together the very social structure that binds us all together. 

As every education system around the globe has been disrupted by the coronavirus we must work together to support one another.  We must crowdsource materials.  We must think across grade levels, standards, and content.  We must focus on learning and the art of thinking.  We must be mindful of the social and emotional needs of our students.  Let us provide our students with a remarkable learning experience in the times ahead. We will find a path forward together.

 Let's face it: being a student in today's digital age is a lot of work!        It's easy to get lost in all of the assignments , tasks and projects while studying in any type of institution or even self-taught methods. Being organized and efficient in the way you study is key to keeping all of your learning on track! Apart from studying, keeping yourself organized can also feel like a full-time job!      The first tip cannot be stressed enough: Keep a planner ! Whether you prefer a digital one like Passion Planner or a paper one, keeping a planner will make a noticeable difference in your organization! Make sure your planner is always easily accessible so you can write things down as soon as you learn them like deadlines and class dates. You can keep lists of supplies you need, questions you may have, notes along the day and so much more! The CoVid19 crisis is having a profound effect on all of us as citizens of this world. In order to prevent the spread of the virus, our education system has been shut down. According to UNESCO, these nationwide closures are impacting over 90% of the world’s student population. In many districts, there are contingency plans, technology rollouts, and resource staff to support learners and their families. However, there is no consistency across local school boards and districts, much less between countries around the world. As a 23-year veteran teacher in Toronto, my only remote learning experience has been my own.
